Dr. Jean Cooper

I am registered as an Industrial & Organisational Psychologist with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). I do Executive Coaching and consults to Executive Teams, assisting them to gain insight into how their own dynamics affect their business' performance. I also take on a limited number of larger-scale organisational and cultural change projects, for which I then in-source assistance from my trusted network of associates. I run training groups for experienced organisational consultants to discuss cases, theory and unconscious processes in human systems. My PhD focused on the unconscious forces affecting members of small groups such as business teams. I believe that we all come from a history of imperfect human systems, and that the only way in which to improve the families, teams, businesses and nations that we belong to, is to acknowledge that they are imperfect, and to be willing to scrutinise our own (albeit unconscious) contributions to the very imperfections that impede or hurt us. I have taught Masters and PhD students at the University of Pretoria and the Chicago School of Professional Psychology and I am still teaching post-graduate students of project management (the people side of project management) at the University of Pretoria. I founded TILT in 2015 and have directed Group Relations Conferences in partnership with the Tavistock Institute in 2016 and 2017 and  sponsored an online Group Relations Conference in 2021. I love running, writing, riding motorcycles and caring for my flock of backyard chickens...;-)
